Notes from Underground

I usually have to spend about an hour in the tube. That's how long my journey to college is. I am not sure whether that is a good thing or not. It surely has a positive side, which is..I can read half of a book whilst sitting there with nothing to do. There are a few things I usually do. I listen to music, which is often great. I feel as if I'am in a much better world; people look nice to the sound of my selected tunes but, lately they don't. Lately, music in the tube has been..boring. Crazy, I guess. Music can't be boring, right. I guess it's due to the commuters. They pack in and ruin everything. My second option is writing on my journal. I rarely do it. I buy loads of journals and dream of beautiful handwritings and, perfect interesting stories to write. Never Happens. Another issue with writing in public is privacy. Probably, no one cares what I am writing but it is the same as when one poses for a picture. People will stare for a couple of seconds. Said that, my third option is reading..as Bukowski says 'always carry a book with you so you don't have to look at people'. By reading a book the long journey does not seem so long. So, I sit there and Notes from Underground makes me smile and that's a reaction I consciously wonder about getting, alone in public..It is similar to laughing at your phone. Laughing alone. Can you control it? So what right? Ahh, okay!

  1. I laugh at my phone or smile randomly when I hear a song that brings up memories. Nothing wrong with it I say, though dead-on-their-feet commuters might look at me strangely =)

    1. I agree that there is nothing wrong with it. It is just a weird moment sometimes, to analyse yourself..there showing emotions on your own..haha anyway xx

  2. Eu raramente me consigo concentrar o suficiente para ser capaz de ler em lugares públicos - devo sofrer de um défice qualquer. É uma pena. Já te adicionei no Goodreads, não já?
Adorei a primeira foto. Usaste tripé?!

  5. for three years I needed 2 hours to university. I'm so glad that now I only need a quarter to half hour because I cannot read in trains. but I liked to watch the different people

    1. Watching people is fun, if you are not self conscious. :)

  6. Yes, I have the same problem. I travel often to a near city, bigger than mine, and it takes a whole hour to get there by bus. I used to read (or study) but now I find it a bit hard, the bumpy road, the ambient noise, so I prefer to listen to music, close my eyes and relax. I try to find new albums every now and then and I use that hour to appreaciate them. Sometimes, instead of a real book, I read ebooks on my iPod touch WHILE listening to music.

I remember laughing quite a lot with one book and i tell you what: i did not care xD
If I feel forced to listen to other people chating on their mobiles phones, me laughing is just... nothing.

    Best for you!

    1. Nothing better than adding new songs to your device so you can listen when commuting right haha.

  7. So wonder why... writing isn't a good idea to do on the train, even there is no one care about you, they just stare for a couple of seconds.

  9. Ah, yes the commute to school. My university is about an hour and a half away by bus/Skytrain (our metro/tube/subway method of transportation). Music, writing and reading are always the three actvities I bounce between as well, and with the same problems! I can very much relate.
(Also, sometimes sleeping is just what ends up happening. Ah well.)

With a book we are never alone,a necessary shelter for when we need more than our skin to get between us and the rest of the world*
